Barcodes are useful because they turn product identification into a quick scan instead of a search. A shop can use the code already printed by the manufacturer or create an internal code for products that arrive without one.
Use the manufacturer barcode when it already exists
Packaged goods often already have a barcode. Enter that value when creating or importing the product, then scan the same code at checkout. This avoids placing a second label on products that are already uniquely identified.
Generate internal codes for uncoded products
For locally packaged goods, clothing, spare parts or other items without a usable code, the POS can create an internal barcode value. NileStock can also maintain a matching QR value and prepare printable code sheets.
The important rule is consistency: the code on the label must match the code stored against that product.
Camera scanning versus a USB or Bluetooth scanner
A phone camera is convenient for a small catalogue and occasional scanning. A dedicated barcode scanner is usually faster at a busy counter and can often behave like a keyboard, entering the scanned number directly into the POS search field.
That means a shop can begin with a phone and add hardware later without changing the whole inventory system.
Print labels at a size people can actually scan
Avoid extremely small codes, keep enough white space around the barcode and test labels using the exact device that will be used at checkout. For thermal printers, match the receipt or label width to the printer model before printing a large batch.
